No Surprises Act
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under federal law, if you don't have insurance — or you have insurance but don't plan to use it for your care — you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your therapy will cost before your first session.
What a Good Faith Estimate Covers
Your estimate lays out the expected cost of the specific services we've discussed — for example, an initial consultation, ongoing individual sessions, or couples or family sessions — based on our current fees.
When You'll Receive One
If you're uninsured, or you have insurance but don't plan to use it, we'll provide your Good Faith Estimate before your first scheduled session. You can also request one at any time, before scheduling anything, by emailing or calling us — we'll provide it within the timeframe required by federal law.
If Your Bill Is Higher Than Expected
If the amount you're actually billed is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill. You can start a dispute through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' patient-provider dispute resolution process within 120 calendar days of the date on your original bill. There's a $25 fee to file. Full details and the required forms are available at cms.gov/nosurprises.
A Few Things to Know
A Good Faith Estimate is not a bill, and it isn't a guarantee of your final cost — if your treatment needs change, the actual cost may be different. Keep your estimate somewhere safe so you can compare it to any bills you receive later.
