Who's in the Room
Formats
Therapy takes different shapes depending on what you're bringing and who you're bringing it with. Each format has its own dynamics and its own kind of work.
Individual Therapy
A space that belongs entirely to you. There's no set agenda here, just an honest conversation with someone who's paying close attention, judgment left at the door.
50-min sessionsCouples Therapy
Communication breakdowns, rebuilding trust, feeling more like roommates than partners, or navigating a big life transition together. Couples work at NYSOM draws on the Gottman Method, holding space for both people without taking sides.

Family Therapy
Families are complicated. We work with all kinds: blended, multigenerational, chosen. No perfect family required, just a willingness to show up.

How the Work Gets Done
Modalities
These are the clinical frameworks and approaches we draw on. No single modality fits everyone. We let the work, and the person, guide which ones take hold.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT works with the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Structured, practical, and one of the most researched approaches in clinical psychology.
CBTLearn how it works →Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy builds skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed for BPD, now widely used.
Skills-basedLearn how it works →
Psychodynamic Therapy
Explores the unconscious patterns, early experiences, and relational dynamics that shape how you move through the world. Slower and deeper, well suited to those looking to understand root patterns rather than manage symptoms alone.
Depth-orientedLearn how it works →
Somatic Therapy
The body holds what the mind tries to move past. Somatic approaches work directly with physical sensation, nervous system regulation, and the body's role in emotional experience.
Body-basedLearn how it works →
Gestalt Therapy
A present-focused approach built on awareness: what you're feeling, sensing, and avoiding right now, not just where it came from. The relationship in the room is treated as real material, not commentary from the sidelines.
Present-focusedLearn how it works →
ACT & Mindfulness-Based
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy works with psychological flexibility, learning to hold difficult thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them.
Third-wave CBTLearn how it works →
Gottman Method
A research-based approach to couples work developed over decades of study into what makes relationships succeed or fail. Concrete, structured, and deeply effective.
Couples-specificLearn how it works →
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Particularly effective for trauma and PTSD. It works with how the brain stores and processes difficult experiences.
Trauma-focusedLearn how it works →Internal Family Systems
IFS works with the different "parts" of yourself, including the ones that seem to work against you. A framework that tends to create real insight, often quickly.

What We Treat
Areas of Focus
The presenting concerns and clinical territory we work in most. If you don't see what you're carrying listed here, reach out anyway. This list isn't exhaustive.
Anxiety & Stress
New York is not a relaxing place to live. We help you understand what's driving the anxiety, and find some quiet in the middle of all of it. Learn more
Area of FocusBurnout & Exhaustion
Succeeding on paper while running on empty underneath. We help you get honest about what's actually unsustainable, before it becomes the only thing you feel. Learn more
Area of FocusDepression
Not every hard stretch is depression, but if you've lost count of the hard days, that's worth exploring. We don't rush it, and we don't reduce it to a checklist.
Area of FocusTrauma & PTSD
Trauma doesn't always look like what you expect. Sometimes it's quiet, or it's been there so long it's started to feel normal. We work carefully, at your pace, always.
Area of FocusGrief & Loss
Grief is not a problem to solve. It's something to be accompanied through. We don't put a timeline on it, and we don't ask you to explain why it still hurts.
Area of FocusLife Transitions
New job, new city, new relationship, new loss. Transitions upend the story we've been telling about ourselves. We help you find the thread again.
Area of FocusRelationship & Attachment
How we attach to people, and why certain patterns keep repeating, is some of the most important work we do. This shows up in partnerships, friendships, family, and the relationship with yourself.
Area of FocusIdentity & Self-Worth
Who you are underneath the roles you play and the expectations you carry. Work that goes slower, and usually deeper, than symptom-focused therapy.
Area of FocusOCD & Intrusive Thoughts
Often misunderstood and frequently misdiagnosed. We use evidence-based approaches, including ERP, with an approach built specifically for this territory.
Area of FocusADHD & Executive Function
Not just about focus. ADHD shapes how you experience time, relationships, and yourself. We work with adults who are just now putting a name to something they've always felt.

The Bigger Picture
Platform & Support
How we deliver care, and what's available when the work calls for more than therapy alone.
100% Telehealth
Psychologically, we meet you where you are. Physically, that tends to be wherever you can carve out fifty minutes of privacy, which in New York requires more ingenuity than it should.
NYS LicensedHealth & Wellness Network
Sometimes therapy is one piece of a larger picture. When your care calls for more, we'll help you find the right person and make the introduction, so you don't have to start from scratch.
